Every year, for several wonderful days, the city of Rio de Janeiro transforms into the most extravagant city in Brazil. In a frenzy of music, dance sequins and feathers, the Cariocas (local inhabitants) and countless others celebrate carnaval. From the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana to the Old City and beyond, revelers don sparkly and exotic costumes and take to the streets. The flamboyant balls, boisterous parades and fantastic street carnavals that continue on throughout the festival are legendary.
