Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a naturally-occurring vitamin-like substance. It belongs to a family of compounds known as ubiquinones, so named because of their ubiquitous (wide-spread) distribution in virtually all human and animal cells. It plays a vital role in Cellular Energy Production, that is why levels of CoQ10 are highest in the mitochondria, the energy generating factory of our cells, with highest concentration the cells of the heart, brain, liver and kidney.
